Flower Land Kamifurano, Hokkaido

4.1 (1001)GardenScenic SpotFarmSnack BarMeal TakeawayRestaurantServiceFoodPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Flower Land Kamifurano is a 247-acre tourist farm situated in the Furano area of Hokkaido, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Tokachi mountain range. Lavender has been cultivated in Hokkaido since the 1940s, and the region transformed from agricultural production to a major tourist destination when imported lavender affected local demand in the 1960s and 1970s. Today, Flower Land stands as one of the largest flower fields in the Furano area, representing the region's deep agricultural heritage and cultural appreciation for seasonal natural beauty.

The farm showcases an ever-changing tapestry of seasonal blooms that attract nature enthusiasts and photographers throughout the warmer months. The floral display varies each month from June to September, featuring lupines, marigolds, zinnias, and bright red salvias. Lavender becomes the star attraction in mid-July, while lupines bloom in June and sunflowers open in August. The observation deck provides sweeping views across the Daisetsuzan mountain range, including Hokkaido's highest peak, Mount Asahi, and Mount Tokachi, all framed by vibrant flower fields below.

Visitors can explore the expansive grounds on foot along numerous walking paths or take a popular tractor bus tour through the fields. The tractor bus offers a leisurely 10-15 minute ride through the flower fields, with routes changing seasonally to showcase the best blooms. The farm provides hands-on experiences including lavender cutting, flower pressing, and creating lavender-scented sleep pillows from lavender potpourri. An on-site restaurant serves authentic Asahikawa ramen and local specialties, while the gift shop offers souvenirs, locally produced goods, and fresh seasonal produce including Furano melon, asparagus, corn, and potatoes.

Entry is free to the flower garden, though there is a small fee for the tractor bus tour. The farm is located 10 minutes by car from JR Kamifurano Station and approximately 90 minutes from Mikasa IC on the Hokkaido Expressway via Route 452. Visitors can reach the farm by taxi from Kamifurano Station (five-minute ride) or on foot (50-60 minute walk). 100 parking spaces are available free of charge. The farm accepts major credit cards including MasterCard and Visa.

What other travelers are saying about Flower Land Kamifurano, Hokkaido

Came in late september, still has some nice flowers but I can see about >50% of the fields are now past their prime. Still quite nice to walk around, small one story observatory. Small nice shop to purchase anything if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

The best time to visit depends on which flowers you want to see. Lupines bloom in June, lavender reaches peak bloom in mid-July, and sunflowers appear in August. The farm is open from June to September, with the most vibrant displays typically occurring between mid-June and early September. Mid-July is particularly popular for lavender enthusiasts.

Entry to the flower garden is completely free. However, there is a small fee if you wish to take the tractor bus tour through the fields, which lasts approximately 10-15 minutes. Activities like lavender cutting and flower pressing may also have separate charges.

From Sapporo, you can take the JR train to Kamifurano Station, then either take a taxi (5-minute ride) or walk (50-60 minutes) to the farm. By car, the farm is located about 90 minutes from Mikasa IC on the Hokkaido Expressway via Route 452. The farm offers 100 free parking spaces for visitors driving their own vehicles.

Visitors can walk through the extensive flower fields on foot, take a tractor bus tour that changes routes seasonally, and participate in hands-on activities including lavender cutting, flower pressing, and making lavender-scented sleep pillows. The farm also has an on-site restaurant serving Asahikawa ramen and local dishes, plus a gift shop selling souvenirs and fresh seasonal produce.

Flower Land Kamifurano has expansive fields of different flowering plants. The fields are separated by walking paths. Because each field occupies a big area, it does not feel crowded and visitors can pose and take photographs anywhere along the perimeter of each field. Looking eastwards, Mount Tokachi and Daisetsuzan National Park are in the background, providing a picture-perfect postcard. When my wife and I were there in July, the flower blooms were fresh despite the summer heat. There were a few wedding couples present having their photographs taken. The different flower fields provided many opportunities for nice photographs. Walking downhill from the main entrance, there is an elevated and sheltered observation wooden deck which provides an overall view of the flower fields. A few benches on the deck provide rest to those who need it. At the end of our visit, we browsed the merchandise in the retail shop and enjoyed cut melon fruit which was very sweet and refreshing. We had a wonderful time enjoying the flower fields without the crowds. Best of all, Flower Land Kamifurano provides free entry! Highly recommended for a visit.

Nice farm that you can visit to look at the flowers. Their premise is quite big so, it's a nice walk in the summer. The flowers will only bloom in jul so, we were too early when we visited in may. There is a restaurant on site so, you can buy some food if you're hungry.

I visited Flower Land Kamifurano by electric bicycle, and it was truly one of the most peaceful and scenic places Iโ€™ve been to. The atmosphere is incredibly calm, surrounded by colorful flowers as far as the eye can see. The beautiful landscapes are so relaxing to look at, and itโ€™s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature. The staff were also very kind and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!
