What other travelers are saying about Furano Cheese Factory

We arrived at Furano Cheese Factory in the late afternoon, just as the day was winding down. The grounds were noticeably quieter, with the soft golden light casting a calm, almost pastoral atmosphere over the complex. Although we have missed the final pizza service and the hands-on workshops which include cheese and butter-making sessions, the visit still proved worthwhile. The retail space remained open, offering a concise yet well-curated selection of house-made cheeses crafted from locally sourced Furano milk. Sampling was available, allowing for an unhurried appreciation of the different profiles - from mild, creamy varieties to slightly firmer cheeses with a deeper, savoury finish. The quality was evident: clean flavours, balanced salt levels, and a freshness that reflects Hokkaido’s strong dairy heritage. We tried their fresh milk, which was rich yet remarkably smooth, with a natural sweetness that required no embellishment. It was a simple product, but one that beautifully showcased the strength of the region’s dairy. We also tried their cheesecake, and loved it! Delicately set with a soft, airy texture, it carried a gentle tang from the cheese that balanced its subtle sweetness. It was refined rather than heavy, allowing the dairy notes to take centre stage without being overly rich. Elegant and understated, it was the kind of dessert that lingers pleasantly on the palate and leaves you wishing you had taken more home. While arriving close to closing time meant missing some of the more interactive elements, the visit still offered a meaningful glimpse into Furano’s dairy craftsmanship. For those seeking the full experience, arriving earlier in the day would allow time for the wood-fired pizzas and workshops. Nevertheless, even a brief stop provides a tasteful introduction to one of Furano’s most charming local establishments.

A nice place for a stop at Furano, you can see the process of cheesemaking, learn about the history, and buy products made from cheese here! First i had a meal at the restaurant. I had the pizza and capresse. It was really great and cheese was delicious. You can sit at the counter while watching birds come and go to the bird house. The capresse was nice. The old man at the service counter was really nice. You use a ticket vending machine to place your order and give the tickets to the counter, and your number will be called. There wasnt any queue and the place was only 1/4 filled with people. After the restaurant we went upstairs to try the snacks. You can get cookies, cake, cheese, butter, milk, ice cream and other products here. We tried the melon and milk ice cream which was really amazing! Tried the milk and it was alright. I prefer the cheddar than the other one, i think it was camembert? Overall, a great place to stop by when you are in the area!

Furano Cheese Factory is a lovely stop surrounded by beautiful snowy scenery, especially in winter. The building itself is charming, with a cozy wooden interior and large windows that look out onto a peaceful forest covered in snow. Inside, you can enjoy freshly made cheese products, soft serve ice cream, and light meals. The cheese soft serve is a must-try — creamy, mildly sweet, and not too heavy. It’s perfect to enjoy while looking outside at the snowy landscape. The pizzas are also popular, made with local Furano cheese, and are served hot and fresh. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Even when it’s busy, the space feels calm and comfortable, making it a great place to take a break from sightseeing. There are seating areas inside where you can sit by the window and enjoy the view, which makes the experience even more special. This place is perfect for families, couples, or anyone who loves local food and beautiful nature. If you’re visiting Furano, especially during winter, Furano Cheese Factory is definitely worth a stop.

[Dec 2025] Picturesque location. The building set amongst the trees, with snow falling about, presents a beautiful and peaceful scene. Happened to visit in the afternoon when there were busloads of tourists there too, so it was rather crowded and noisy inside. Looks like a popular stop for tour groups. Maybe the morning would have been quieter, so that the atmosphere inside can match the serenity outside. The products they sell are good quality. The castella cheesecake was the right balance of fluffiness and creaminess, and flavourful. If you have a bit of time, recommend to book in advance a cheesemaking workshop. Fun and relatively simple. They also have butter making and ice cream making workshops.

This was such a delicious experience. I was bummed that we were not early enough to get pizza. The small exhibits were fascinating and well put together. The amount of dairy we bought and consumed was really impressive and I enjoyed it all. We tried soft serve, cheese, gelato, the cheesecakes and more cheese. They also had milk available. Easy to pay and order. Great experience, I highly recommend.
