Futako Tamagawa Park is a riverside green space in Setagaya Ward that opened in 2013. Spanning approximately 6.3 hectares, the park was developed around a historic hill called Hyogojima near the Tama River. The park represents a modern urban planning approach that integrates natural riverside environments with community spaces, featuring the Setagaya Life Forest with 1,400 trees planted by local residents. Its development reflects Tokyo's efforts to create accessible green spaces within densely populated urban areas.

The park's centerpiece is Kishin-en, a traditional Japanese stroll garden spanning approximately 1,760 tsubo (about 5,818 square meters). The garden follows classical Japanese landscaping principles with carefully maintained ponds, stone pathways, and seasonal flora. Within Kishin-en stands the Former Shimizu Family Residence, a historically significant building from the late Meiji period that has been designated as a registered tangible cultural property of Setagaya Ward. This traditional Japanese-style structure was relocated to the park and now serves as an educational space open to visitors on Sundays, national holidays, and the second Monday of each month.

Visitors can enjoy diverse recreational activities across the park's landscape. The View Plaza offers panoramic views of Mount Fuji and the Tanzawa mountains on clear days, making it a popular spot for photography. Families frequent the grass squares for picnics and the Green Playground, which features wooden play equipment including a large slide. A dedicated toddler play area includes rubber-chip paving for safety and water play equipment available during summer months.

The park provides direct access to cycling paths along the Tama River and jogging tracks for fitness enthusiasts. The completely barrier-free design accommodates wheelchairs and strollers throughout all areas. A visitor center on the third floor of the adjacent building includes a book corner and relaxation space, while nursing rooms and diaper changing facilities are available upon request.

Futako Tamagawa Park is located 9 minutes on foot from Futako-Tamagawa Station, which is served by the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line and Tokyu Oimachi Line. From Shibuya Station, take the express train on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line, a journey of approximately 30 minutes. From Tokyo Station, take the JR Yamanote Line to Shibuya, then transfer to the express train on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line, totaling about 45 minutes. The park is situated directly behind Futako Tamagawa Rise Shopping Center. Free admission is provided to all park areas. On-site parking accommodates 23 cars at 300 yen per 60 minutes.

Big park. Can walk for hours through natural setting and end up on the bank of Taman river. There is a playground, ideal place to bring children for outing. There is also a small lake and a mini waterfall. There is also a multi purpose field, as saw people playing baseball, football. Then we also saw a unique house, traditional and historical importance. Then finally, we ended up at Starbucks to have tea and rest our aching legs.

Visited Futakotamagawa Park today again and spent a good time having picnic, and lots of fun with our kids. It is very close to the station and quite wide containing a small soccer field, some sports equipment mostly oriented for kids, playing area, a wonderful Japanese style garden, picnic area, slide and even Starbucks. All the supermarkets near the part have lots of bentos and fresh pretend foods. Definitely will visit it again and strongly recommend for everyone.

Very nice place to space out and just wait for the sunset. Grab a drink from the Starbucks located just inside the park or from one of the vendos and pick a spot along the river bank.
