Gotemba Kogen Resort Toki no Sumika is a luxury hot spring resort located in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture, positioned at the southeastern base of Mount Fuji. The resort was established in 2009 as part of Japan's premium onsen destination development, capitalizing on the area's natural hot spring resources and spectacular mountain views. The facility represents a modern interpretation of traditional Japanese hospitality, combining contemporary luxury amenities with authentic ryokan-style service.

The resort's primary significance lies in its exceptional vantage point for viewing Mount Fuji, Japan's most sacred mountain and UNESCO World Heritage site. The property sits at approximately 500 meters elevation, providing unobstructed panoramic views of the iconic peak. The natural hot springs, known as Gotemba Onsen, draw from underground thermal waters rich in minerals, particularly beneficial for muscle relaxation and skin health. The surrounding Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park encompasses pristine forests and volcanic landscapes that have inspired Japanese art and literature for centuries.

Visitors can experience multiple outdoor and indoor hot spring baths, including the signature rooftop onsen with direct Mount Fuji views. The resort features 47 guest rooms, all equipped with private hot spring baths and mountain-facing windows. Dining experiences showcase kaiseki cuisine prepared with local Shizuoka ingredients, including renowned Gotemba Koshihikari rice and fresh wasabi. The resort offers cultural activities such as traditional tea ceremony demonstrations and seasonal festivals celebrating Japanese customs.

Seasonal conditions dramatically affect the visitor experience and Mount Fuji visibility. October through February provides the clearest mountain views, with snow-capped Fuji visible on approximately 70% of days. Spring brings cherry blossoms to the resort grounds in early April, while summer offers hiking access to Fuji's climbing trails from July to September. Winter transforms the landscape into a snow-covered wonderland, though weather can limit outdoor activities. Early morning hours consistently offer the best photographic opportunities regardless of season.

The resort is accessible via JR Tokaido Line to Kozu Station, then transfer to JR Gotemba Line to Gotemba Station, followed by a 15-minute complimentary shuttle bus that operates hourly. Direct highway bus service connects Tokyo's Shinjuku Station to Gotemba Station in approximately 100 minutes. By car, the resort is 90 minutes from central Tokyo via the Tomei Expressway. Room rates range from ¥40,000 to ¥80,000 per person including dinner and breakfast, with premium suites commanding higher prices. Day-trip onsen access is available for ¥3,000 per adult with advance reservation required, though overnight stays are recommended to fully appreciate the Mount Fuji sunrise views that define this destination's appeal.

What other travelers are saying about Gotemba Kogen Resort Toki no Sumika

It's hotel near Fuji mountain. There are many restaurants around the hotel and illumination around the hotel was awsome. There were the other atractions also. I stayed at the room for group so I'm not sure but it seems like they have many types of room. Hot springs was also great. Then the break fast was also great. It was all you can eat and they have many many kinds of dishes being prepared. Lastly of course it depends on the room, but the view with Fuji mountain was awsome in the morning.
