Hakodate Nanae Snow Park stands as southern Hokkaido's premier ski destination, strategically positioned near Onuma Quasi-National Park in Nanae-cho. The resort operates year-round, transforming from a winter sports haven to a summer recreation area with hiking trails and scenic gondola rides. Located approximately 50 minutes by car from Hakodate City, the park serves as a gateway to the region's natural splendor while maintaining accessibility to urban amenities.

The park's defining feature is Japan's longest gondola system, stretching an impressive 3,319 meters to transport visitors to the summit. This engineering marvel offers not just transportation but a scenic journey with panoramic views of Mount Komagatake and Onuma Pond. The resort's eight ski courses provide a total sliding distance of up to 13,000 meters, with the longest single run extending 4 kilometers. The terrain caters to all skill levels, featuring gentle family-friendly slopes alongside challenging expert runs that wind through natural forest settings with rime-covered trees.

The mountain's summit houses PEAK CAFÉ, where visitors can enjoy refreshments while taking in sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. The facility combines modern amenities with natural beauty, offering glade courses that maximize the existing terrain rather than heavily modifying the mountainside. During summer months, the gondola continues operating for sightseeing purposes, providing access to hiking trails and mountain vistas without the winter sports focus.

Transportation options include driving from Hakodate City or taking the Hokkaido Shinkansen to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station followed by local transport connections. The resort also connects via JR Onuma-Koen Station for those preferring rail travel. Equipment rental services are available on-site, with ski equipment starting from 90cm lengths and snowboard gear from 100cm. Lift tickets and rental packages can be purchased together, with advance reservations recommended for combination deals. The facility accepts both credit cards and electronic money for ticket purchases, and senior discounts are available for visitors aged 60 and older with proper identification.

What other travelers are saying about Hakodate Nanae Snow Park

Pretty good for beginners. The lifts were not all operating and snow was a bit slushy due to weather but we enjoyed. Restaurants and cafes are quite basic. The gondola was operating only for sightseeing and not for skiing. The view of Sawaradake was beautiful from the slopes.

This scenic snow-capped mountain ski resort offers breathtaking views. For first-time visitors, it's recommended to make a phone reservation for snow gear rentals 2-3 days in advance. However, those arriving early can still secure equipment through on-site rentals without significant concern about stock depletion. The slopes tend to be relatively steeper - beginners may want to test their skills on the short practice chairlift before attempting the main gondola ride to higher elevations. The price for ropeway ticket is 5000 yen. The price of equipment renting is around 6000 yen.

The place is good for beginners. Rental is cheap though the material is correspondingly poorer - it’s doable for beginners. Slopes are gentle. Ski lifts are also cheap.

Take the morning train from Hakodate, then transfer to free shuttle bus, it takes approximately one hour from city center. Great access, wide slopes with various courses, not as international as Niseko but definitely recommend for those who wants less crowds!

For intermediate snowboarding a lot of fun. Like the long long runs down the mountain. For me and my level more fun then furano or hakuba.
