Ikeda City Urban Green Botanical Garden is located in Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture, established in 1961 as a public facility dedicated to plant conservation, education, and recreation. The garden spans approximately 24 hectares and was developed to preserve green space within the increasingly urbanized Kansai region. Originally conceived as a municipal park with botanical focus, the facility has evolved to include diverse plant collections, educational programs, and recreational areas serving both local residents and visitors.

The garden holds natural significance as one of the few comprehensive botanical gardens in northern Osaka Prefecture. The collection includes over 10,000 plant species and varieties, representing flora from Japan and around the world. Specialized sections showcase alpine plants, tropical species in greenhouse environments, aquatic plants, and seasonal flowering displays. The garden plays an important role in plant conservation, botanical research, and environmental education. A notable feature is the bonsai exhibition area, displaying traditional Japanese miniature tree cultivation with specimens maintained by local practitioners.

Visitors can explore themed garden areas including Japanese traditional gardens, rose gardens with hundreds of varieties, herb gardens, and woodland trails. The greenhouse complex houses tropical and subtropical plants. Seasonal highlights include cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in early summer, and autumn foliage. Educational displays explain plant biology and cultivation techniques. Walking paths connect different sections for leisurely exploration. Picnic areas and rest facilities are available throughout the garden. A small shop sells plants, seeds, and gardening supplies.

Access Ikeda City Urban Green Botanical Garden from Ikeda Station on the Hankyu Takarazuka Line, approximately 15 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by bus. From Osaka's Umeda Station, reach Ikeda via the Hankyu Takarazuka Line in about 20 minutes. From Kyoto, take the Hankyu Railway to Juso Station, then transfer to the Takarazuka Line for roughly 50 minutes total. By car, use the Meishin Expressway and exit at Ikeda Interchange, located approximately 10 minutes from the garden. Paid parking is available. Admission costs 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for children, with free entry for preschool-age children.

Didn't really enjoy the experience. Gardens were beautiful, and a nice greenhouse that we just let ourselves in... But we did try to get some help on the park in the information centre (I think that's what is was), but no one really cared.

On Saturday, November 22nd, I parked my car in the free parking lot at the History and Folklore Museum, visited Chausuyama Kofun, and then visited this botanical garden. It's a small, but free facility. After that, I walked around the zoo and Ikeda Castle ruins before heading home.

It's not a large botanical garden. It's a small greenhouse. Many people stop here for a break on their way back from hiking up Satsukiyama. Amazingly, you can see the flowers and plants for free. I went on May 1st, 2024, around 2:30pm, but it was fully booked due to the rain. I thoroughly enjoyed the hydrangea display.
