The JR EAST Travel Service Center at Tokyo Station serves as the primary information and ticketing hub for travelers exploring Japan's extensive railway network operated by East Japan Railway Company. Established to assist both international and domestic visitors, this center has become an essential first stop for tourists arriving in Tokyo who plan to utilize the country's renowned rail system.

Located within Tokyo Station, one of Japan's busiest transportation hubs, the center holds particular significance as a gateway to understanding Japan's efficient public transportation culture. Tokyo Station itself is a historic landmark, with its Marunouchi Building dating back to 1914, and the service center benefits from this central location that connects travelers to the Shinkansen bullet train network, local JR lines, and numerous other transportation options radiating throughout the greater Tokyo area and beyond.

Visitors to the center can purchase various rail passes including the popular Japan Rail Pass, which must be exchanged here if purchased overseas, as well as regional passes like the JR East Pass for exploring northern and eastern Japan. English-speaking staff provide route planning assistance, help with ticket reservations for long-distance trains, and offer guidance on navigating Japan's complex rail system. The center also handles baggage delivery services and provides essential travel information, maps, and brochures in multiple languages. Many travelers use this as their starting point to plan journeys to destinations such as Nikko, Nagano, or the Tohoku region.

The service center is located on the first floor of Tokyo Station near the Marunouchi North Exit. Tokyo Station is accessible via multiple JR lines including the Yamanote, Chuo, and Keihin-Tohoku lines, as well as the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. The station is approximately 5 kilometers from Tokyo International Forum and within walking distance of the Imperial Palace grounds. Services at the center are provided free of charge, though rail passes and tickets must be purchased separately at standard JR rates.

What other travelers are saying about JR EAST Travel Service Center Tokyo Station, Chiyoda

A very crowded station, but nice service center, with friendly staff! Who speak very good English (thank you!). The station itself is very confusing and huge, but the center was nice and made the visit a whole lot better. Easy enough to acquire necessary tickets to the airport.

JR East Travel Service Center at Tokyo Station is very convenient for travelers. The staff are helpful and efficient, and you can easily exchange your Hokuriku Pass here. A great starting point for your Japan rail journey! 🚅
We came this morning to reschedule our ticket from Tokyo to Gala Yuzawa. Unfortunately, the male staff member who assisted us was not very friendly. From the left side the counter is no. 1or 2 around 11.00 on 04 March 2026. He was wearing a mask and spoke very softly, which made it difficult to understand him. When we asked about the direct ticket, instead of apologizing and explaining that it was sold out, he simply said, “No direct ticket,” without any further explanation. We found this interaction quite disappointing. Good customer service, especially clear communication and a polite attitude, is very important. Perhaps additional customer service training would be beneficial. We also noticed from other reviews that several guests had similar experiences with the same male staff member. In contrast, when we were assisted by a female staff member on March 1st, she was very friendly, helpful, and professional. The difference in service was quite noticeable.

They are very professional and kind attitude showing. Wishing them best of luck. Location is near maurunouchi central exit.
It’s located near Marunouchi(丸の内北口) North exit Came here to pick up our 5days JR East rail passes that we booked online before arriving in Japan. It was annoying that the pickup points are only certain areas in Kanto or Tohoku, for instance, we couldn’t pick up at any other JR stations/airpots in Kansai where we started to travel. So we lost one day out of 5 days pass period, however, it was worth it since a return trip Tokyo - Aomori costs over 40,000¥ but the pass is 30,000¥ The clerks at the service center were kind and efficient Only the complaint is the JR East website(English) which is not so user friendly. Very complicated to understand the system and the navigation through the site is horrible. It’s so hard to find a simple topic, like, find the pass pickup points. It’s not straight forward Wish they improve it
