What other travelers are saying about JR EAST Travel Service Center Tokyo Station, Chiyoda
A very crowded station, but nice service center, with friendly staff! Who speak very good English (thank you!). The station itself is very confusing and huge, but the center was nice and made the visit a whole lot better. Easy enough to acquire necessary tickets to the airport.
JR East Travel Service Center at Tokyo Station is very convenient for travelers. The staff are helpful and efficient, and you can easily exchange your Hokuriku Pass here. A great starting point for your Japan rail journey! 🚅
We came this morning to reschedule our ticket from Tokyo to Gala Yuzawa. Unfortunately, the male staff member who assisted us was not very friendly. From the left side the counter is no. 1or 2 around 11.00 on 04 March 2026. He was wearing a mask and spoke very softly, which made it difficult to understand him. When we asked about the direct ticket, instead of apologizing and explaining that it was sold out, he simply said, “No direct ticket,” without any further explanation.
We found this interaction quite disappointing. Good customer service, especially clear communication and a polite attitude, is very important. Perhaps additional customer service training would be beneficial.
We also noticed from other reviews that several guests had similar experiences with the same male staff member. In contrast, when we were assisted by a female staff member on March 1st, she was very friendly, helpful, and professional. The difference in service was quite noticeable.
They are very professional and kind attitude showing. Wishing them best of luck.
Location is near maurunouchi central exit.
It’s located near Marunouchi(丸の内北口) North exit
Came here to pick up our 5days JR East rail passes that we booked online before arriving in Japan.
It was annoying that the pickup points are only certain areas in Kanto or Tohoku, for instance, we couldn’t pick up at any other JR stations/airpots in Kansai where we started to travel.
So we lost one day out of 5 days pass period, however, it was worth it since a return trip Tokyo - Aomori costs over 40,000¥ but the pass is 30,000¥
The clerks at the service center were kind and efficient
Only the complaint is the JR East website(English) which is not so user friendly. Very complicated to understand the system and the navigation through the site is horrible. It’s so hard to find a simple topic, like, find the pass pickup points. It’s not straight forward
Wish they improve it
The center provides comprehensive rail travel assistance including Japan Rail Pass exchange and activation, purchase of JR East regional passes, ticket reservations for Shinkansen and limited express trains, route planning consultation, and baggage delivery services. English-speaking staff offer guidance on navigating Japan's rail network and distribute free maps, timetables, and travel brochures in multiple languages.
Yes, if you purchased your Japan Rail Pass outside of Japan as an exchange order, you must visit a JR office like this service center to exchange it for the actual pass before you can use it. You'll need to present your exchange order, passport, and specify your preferred activation date. The pass can be activated immediately or on a future date within three months of issue.
Yes, the service center handles seat reservations for all JR trains including the Shinkansen bullet trains. If you hold a valid Japan Rail Pass or JR East Pass, reserved seats can be booked at no additional charge. Staff can help you select appropriate trains and seat types based on your itinerary and provide printed reservation tickets.
The center is located on the first floor of Tokyo Station near the Marunouchi North Exit. After arriving at Tokyo Station, follow signs toward the Marunouchi exits. The center is clearly marked with English signage and is positioned in the main concourse area, making it accessible before passing through ticket gates to the platforms.
There is no fee for using the information and assistance services provided by the staff at the center. However, you will need to pay standard rates for purchasing rail passes, individual tickets, or making seat reservations if you don't hold a valid pass. Currency exchange services are not available, but nearby ATMs and currency exchange counters can be found within Tokyo Station.
