Kogane Onsen, Rankoshi

4.4 (640)SpaPublic BathPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Kogane Onsen is a secluded hot spring facility located on a working rice farm in the rural countryside of Rankoshi, Hokkaido. This intimate onsen operates seasonally from May through October, offering visitors an authentic Japanese bathing experience in a tranquil agricultural setting. The facility represents the traditional connection between farming communities and natural hot springs, where local farmers have historically utilized geothermal resources for both practical and therapeutic purposes.

The onsen holds particular significance for its carbonated hot spring water, which naturally bubbles with carbon dioxide, creating a unique bathing experience distinct from conventional hot springs. The property combines the hot spring facility with a working rice farm and includes a traditional soba noodle preparation area where the owner hand-makes noodles. This integration of agriculture, culinary tradition, and natural hot springs exemplifies rural Japanese hospitality and sustainable farming practices.

Visitors can experience both indoor and outdoor bathing pools, with separate facilities for men and women. The outdoor tin bath features the distinctive carbonated water that provides a tingling sensation on the skin. After bathing, guests can enjoy fresh, hand-made soba noodles prepared on-site using ingredients from the surrounding farm. The facility also offers Genghis Khan BBQ experiences featuring locally sourced mutton and fresh vegetables from nearby farms, with packages starting at 2,800 yen per person including hot spring access.

Located at 258-1 Kogane, Rankoshi, Isoya District, Hokkaido 048-1323, the facility is accessible by car with free parking available. The onsen accepts cash only and does not provide towel rentals, though face towels can be purchased on-site. The facility welcomes visitors with tattoos and provides basic amenities including body soap and shampoo. Reservations are recommended for BBQ experiences.

What other travelers are saying about Kogane Onsen, Rankoshi

Kogane Onsen, a natural hot spring handmade by farmers in Hokkaido There were definitely fairies in the view from the open-air bath. As a Japanese hot spring lover, this is the best natural hot spring I've ever visited. My recommendation is the hot springs and the Genghis Khan BBQ (mutton) self-barbecue here. The cost is 2800 yen per person including hot spring fee. (Draft beer is an additional charge) Reservations required. All vegetables are fresh from nearby farms. The rice balls in the barbecue set were delicious, so I bought some rice as well. 2kg is 1080 yen. Even if the rice is the same variety, the rice here is more delicious than the one sold at the supermarket. Only the hot springs are 500 yen per person. Open only from May to October. Please check in advance.

It has a very strong carbonic acid that will heal all the fatigue of the trip. The personality of the people is also very nice, so you can take a bath very comfortably!
