The Koji Kinutani Tenku Museum is located on the 27th floor of Abeno Harukas in Osaka, Japan's tallest skyscraper at 300 meters. Opened in 2010 and relocated to Abeno Harukas in 2014, the museum is dedicated to Koji Kinutani, a prominent contemporary Japanese artist born in 1943 in Nara Prefecture. Kinutani is renowned for his distinctive style blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern artistic expression, particularly his use of vibrant colors and spiritual themes. The museum provides permanent exhibition space for Kinutani's work, making contemporary Japanese art accessible to wider audiences.

The museum holds cultural significance as one of few institutions in Japan dedicated to a single living contemporary artist. Kinutani's work explores nature, spirituality, and the human condition through paintings combining nihonga (Japanese-style painting) techniques with Western influences. His signature works feature bold colors, mystical imagery, and Buddhist philosophy references. The collection spans various periods of his career, demonstrating artistic evolution and exploration of transcendence and natural beauty.

Visitors view rotating exhibitions from Kinutani's collection, including traditional Japanese themes, abstract compositions, and travel-inspired works. The gallery features floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic Osaka views, merging art and cityscape. Educational materials and artist statements provide context for Kinutani's creative philosophy. The museum shop sells prints, books, and art-related merchandise. The Abeno Harukas location allows combining museum visits with the building's observation deck and shopping facilities.

Access the museum via Tennoji Station, served by JR Osaka Loop Line, Kintetsu Railway, and Osaka Metro Midosuji Line, located directly above the station. From Osaka Station, take the JR Loop Line (approximately 20 minutes) or Midosuji subway (about 15 minutes). From Kansai International Airport, take JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service or Nankai Railway (roughly 50 minutes). Elevators access the 27th floor entrance. Admission costs 1,000 yen for adults and 700 yen for students, with reduced children's rates.

I don't know a lot about japanese art, and we often have exhibition about very weird artist in Paris, so it's was a great surprise to go there and discover the art of Koji Kinutani. Through his art, you can feel so many things and recognize so many references that it's almost a fun experience. Also, the place is surprinsingly well arranged, because I was always a bit disappointed by the lack of explanation in japanese museum. 10/10

Absolutely beautiful experience. Two little 5 minute 3D art presentations that were very unique and a ton of beautiful renaissance, Fresno and modern art. Incredible scenery. Anyone wanting a look at a small, unique and easily navigable museum should definitely stop by here. With the Osaka E-pass it was great value and I highly suggest you buy one to do some of the tours around the city, especially this one. Helpful staff, little gift shop and items you won't find elsewhere.
