Konica Minolta Planetarium Tenku, Sumida

Last updated May 19, 2026

The Konica Minolta Planetarium "Tenku" opened on May 22, 2012, within Tokyo Skytree Town and underwent a complete renovation in November 2017. This state-of-the-art facility represents one of five planetarium theaters directly managed by Konica Minolta, the only planetarium manufacturer that operates its own theaters. Located on the 7th floor of Skytree Town East Yard beneath Japan's tallest structure, the 634-meter Tokyo Skytree, Tenku forms part of a comprehensive entertainment complex.

The planetarium stands as a technological showcase for advanced astronomical projection. Its dual projection system combines the optical planetarium "INFINIUM S," which creates realistic starfields, with the digital planetarium "Media Globe Σ 4KTE-L," delivering dynamic visual content. The theater features an 18-meter dome with a 10-degree tilt and accommodates 199 visitors. The immersive experience extends beyond visuals through the advanced 3D SOUND DOME® system, incorporating 43 speakers and 4 woofers throughout the dome to create three-dimensional audio that moves in circular patterns.

Visitors can choose between standard seating and premium experiences. Three crescent moon-shaped premium seats positioned at the dome's front offer custom-made comfort for up to two people each. These reclining seats allow guests to lie down while watching presentations, making them particularly popular for romantic visits. Special programming includes collaborations with popular artists and aromatherapy-enhanced shows. Multilingual audio services are available in English, Chinese, and Korean for selected programs at no additional charge.

The planetarium is situated in Tokyo Skytree Town East Yard at 1-1-2 Oshiage, Sumida-ku, Tokyo. Access is convenient via multiple train lines serving Oshiage and Tokyo Skytree stations. General admission starts at 1,600 yen for adults (middle school and above) and 1,000 yen for children (ages 4 and older). Premium seat experiences begin at 4,200 yen and can accommodate up to two people of elementary school age or older, with one additional preschool child permitted. The facility operates within the broader Tokyo Skytree Town complex, allowing visitors to combine their planetarium visit with shopping, dining, and other attractions including the nearby Sumida Aquarium.

What other travelers are saying about Konica Minolta Planetarium Tenku, Sumida

Not great… planetarium show was not educational/scientific at all, we saw the “Goodnight” show. The name really does it justice. The screen is mostly dots/stars on a black screen and calming wave sounds, would definitely put you to sleep. Staff were kind and gave good seat recommendations and the seats reclined decently far. For english speakers, there is an option for an earphones to listen to the audio in English. Audio isn’t really worth listening to imo since it’s not educational in any way. If you want to spend about an hour relaxing and looking at ok visuals this is the place.

Interesting starry night show. We watched 2 shows here. One was the Arabian, and the other one was the song of planetarium. We liked the song of the planetarium as the storyline was much better and touched with beautiful songs. Very relaxed and comfortable seating and ambience No recording (audio or video) during the show.
Located on the 7th floor, shows run all day. Earbuds available if you don’t speak Japanese. Staff is very kind and patient. Show was great. Came out one show and bought a ticket for another.
Loved it! There are 6 different shows currently and I got to see 2 of them. They have regular seats and 3 special big sized seats which were amazing (they need to have a reservation) Both shows we're about 1 hour long. This is my first time going to a planetarium and this was spectacular, I will always remember the special memories this place gave me. If you are visiting Tokyo I recommend this if you love outer space 🌌
Great show. We saw the show about Fiji stars and it was really beautiful and relaxing
