What other travelers are saying about Mangetsuji Ukimido, Otsu
An unique and beautiful floating temple, with great views of Lake Biwa alongside it. There's a small but reasonable 300 yen ticket fee to enter. The temple grounds are pretty small and you probably won't stay longer than 30 mins here.
You can walk on the short bridge to see the temple up close, no shoes allowed around the hall but they provide slippers for visitors to use.
Overall a very photogenic temple with calm and peaceful surroundings. Definitely worth a stop here.
Visiting Mangetsu-ji Temple Uki-midō (Floating Hall) 満月寺 浮御堂 was an amazing experience. The moment you enter, you notice the beautiful temple grounds with many large bonsai trees that create a peaceful atmosphere. Each tree looks like a living piece of art, perfectly shaped and full of character.
One of the most special parts of the visit is the worship hall that stands over the water. Walking toward the hall and seeing it built right above the lake feels very unique, almost as if the temple is floating. From here, you get a wonderful view of the sea-like horizon of Lake Biwa, and the calm water makes the whole place feel serene.
The scenery changes beautifully depending on the time of day. Under bright sunlight, the sky and water look clear and refreshing, while during twilight and dusk, the colors become soft and create a gentle, romantic atmosphere. Watching the sun slowly lower over the water is truly memorable.
It’s a great place to enjoy nature, peaceful views, and a quiet temple setting all in one. The combination of the bonsai trees, the floating hall, and the waterside landscape makes Mangetsu-ji a truly special place to visit. 🌿🌊🌅✨
