Visited Oasis 21 in Nagoya – a unique multi-level complex with the famous ‘Spaceship-Aqua’ glass roof. While the exterior didn’t exactly feel like a spaceship of water, I appreciated the idea of designing the underground and ground floors horizontally rather than stacking them vertically. Instead of filling space with dense vertical buildings, this complex shows how multifunctional use can be achieved in a more open way. The underground level connects directly to the subway, and the under floor links to the bus terminal, making it highly accessible. I had mentioned this facility in a seminar on urban regeneration, and actually visiting it gave the experience much more meaning. Overall, a modern landmark worth seeing during a Nagoya trip.

This place is pretty cool for something that costs you zero dollars. I'd recommend coming at night as the lighting really adds to the ambience. The concourse area is mostly populated by young teens but going up to the rooftop was very peaceful. The running water helps to project an atmosphere of calm. The tourist information booth was very helpful in directing us where to go to get where we wanted. We also bought an item from the ghibli store in the concourse. It was a better store that carried a lot of the items we saw at the store in ghibli park, but without it being overpopulared and uncomfortable.

Has many places to shop by. Has more to shop than just when you go down the stairs. It's also connected to the subway so you don't have to go far to get it. Very convinient being located in the middle of a shopping district. Enjoyed that it had all types of different stores in it, including a Harry Potter store.

"It’s conveniently connected directly to the subway station, allowing you to shop and dine all in one place, though there isn't a huge variety of attractions. However, after sunset, you can witness a beautiful scene at the 'Spaceship Aqua'—where water flows across a glass roof—perfectly complemented by the lights of the Chubu Electric Power Tower."
