Shimonita Hydrangea Garden is located at the eastern gateway of Shimonita Town near the Shimonita Interchange, covering approximately 3 hectares of hillside terrain with about 20,000 hydrangea bushes and approximately 1,200 crape myrtle trees planted. The garden has become one of the leading hydrangea gardens in the Kanto region, transforming this woodland area into a spectacular seasonal attraction during Japan's rainy season.

The garden was established through the dedication of local hydrangea cultivation enthusiasts who recognized the area's potential for creating a major floral destination. The park features a three-hectare hillside setting in the Kanra District where hydrangeas grow naturally within the existing woodland environment. Walking trails and steps crisscross the garden to provide access to the flowers and woodland areas, with the lowest section featuring a pond shaped like the Shimonita district.

Visitors experience a immersive walk through forested slopes where big balls of blossoms in white, pinks, purples, and blues create a stunning natural display. During the main hydrangea season, the district-shaped pond is often filled with cut hydrangea blossoms, creating a floating garden effect. The garden's hillside location provides multiple viewing perspectives and photo opportunities as visitors follow the network of paths through different elevations of the woodland setting.

Admission requires a cooperation fee of 300 yen for adults and 100 yen for elementary school students, while children under elementary school age enter free. Free parking is available during the opening period. The garden is conveniently positioned just off the Joshin-Etsu Expressway Shimonita Interchange, making it easily accessible by car from major urban centers in the Kanto region. The exact address is 1471-1 Umayama, Shimonita-cho, Amaraku-gun, Gunma Prefecture.

This is a vast and beautiful hydrangea garden surrounded by the lush nature of Shimonita. The colorful hydrangeas blooming all over the mountain slopes are a sight to behold, making it the perfect location for a stop on a drive. The park was visited by people of all ages, creating a pleasantly lively atmosphere. [Recommended Points] The spacious garden is lined with walking paths, allowing visitors to leisurely stroll at their own pace and enjoy the hydrangeas. I was told that the number of flowers this year was lower than usual due to the weather, but the garden was still beautiful and well-worth seeing. A young couple visiting the garden commented, "There are more flowers than we expected, and it's so beautiful," and I wholeheartedly agreed. The spacious parking lot makes car access very easy. It's also fun to take your time and find your favorite photo spot. [Notes] The flowering period and flowering may vary depending on the weather each year. When I visited, the flowers were apparently in full bloom a little later than usual. Before visiting, be sure to check the latest flowering information on Shimonita Town's tourism website to ensure you can enjoy the flowers at the best possible time. The park is quite large and has some steep slopes, so we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.

This was my first visit. I heard from word of mouth that the flowers weren't as good this year, but there were still a lot of hydrangeas in bloom. But it was really hot. There were gazebos and rest areas here and there, but the weather was really nice and hot. They had scissors available for rent, and it seemed like you could take home any hydrangeas blooming along the walking course. The hydrangeas were very beautiful, but they also sold shaved ice at the end of the walking course, which was really delicious.

Visited on Sunday, June 22, 2025. It seems like the flowers aren't blooming well this year. I think hydrangeas look best in the rain.
