I would like to share a detailed review that may help future travelers.
The first impression upon arriving at Shinagawa Prince Hotel is its grand scale — the hotel is huge! The check-in process was smooth, and we were assisted by an extremely friendly receptionist (it may have helped that I spoke Japanese). We stayed in a corner room on the 25th floor, as we were a party of three. The elevators are large and operated with the room key card — once you tap it, your floor is automatically activated, which is very convenient.
Now, regarding the room itself: it did not particularly impress me. The furniture feels somewhat outdated and could benefit from renovation. For three people, the space felt quite tight — especially considering we had multiple suitcases (nine in total). The bathroom is the typical compact Japanese style, with bathtub/shower, toilet, and sink all in one unit. Of all the hotels we stayed at during our trip, this one felt the most dated and showed some signs of wear (e.g., worn faucet, older flush system, less modern toilet seat, and bedside light control panel that looked quite outdated).
I understand that hotel rooms in Tokyo tend to be smaller, but for such a large and well-known hotel, I expected a bit more modernity in the rooms.
Now, the very positive points:
• Complimentary luggage storage — this was absolutely wonderful. We were able to store part of our luggage at the hotel while traveling to other cities, free of charge. This made our logistics much easier and saved us a significant amount of money.
• On-site takkyubin (Yamato Transport) counter — located on the 2nd floor of the Main Tower. Extremely convenient for forwarding luggage to the next hotel. In other hotels, we had to search for nearby Yamato offices.
• Coin laundry on the 9th floor of the Main Tower — many washing and drying machines available, a coin exchange machine (despite being told there wasn’t one 😅), and a detergent vending machine. Very useful during a longer stay.
Washing: 35 minutes – 300 yen
Drying: 20 minutes – 200 yen
Detergent: 100 yen per packet
Sometimes the machines were busy, but overall we were able to use them without much trouble.
There is also a food court, a very convenient 7-Eleven, a restaurant called Pivot (which we loved), and several excellent shops on the ground floor.
Additionally, the hotel is located directly across from Shinagawa Station, one of Tokyo’s main transportation hubs. This makes getting around extremely convenient.
We did not visit the aquarium or other attractions within the complex, so I can only review what we personally experienced.
Overall, Shinagawa Prince Hotel is extremely practical and well-located, with very useful on-site facilities. However, the guest rooms would benefit from modernization to better match the scale and reputation of the property.
