Toroki Falls

4.2 (51)Natural FeatureEstablishment

Toroki Falls is a unique and stunning waterfall located on Yakushima Island. What makes Toroki Falls special is that it flows directly into the ocean, creating a mesmerizing blend of fresh and saltwater. The waterfall is relatively small, with a gentle cascade that drops about six meters, but its beauty is captivating. The water tumbles over rocks covered in lush green moss, adding to the scenic view.

The falls are surrounded by dense forest, which gives the area a peaceful and secluded feel. It's a great spot for nature lovers and photographers, offering a chance to capture the contrast between the vibrant greenery and the flowing water. The site is easily accessible, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Toroki Falls is the way it interacts with the tides. During high tide, the water from the falls mixes seamlessly with the sea, creating a unique natural spectacle.

Even though Yakushima is home to many waterfalls, this one of the rare places in Japan where a waterfall flows directly into the ocean is one of the rarest. 🧐 The entrance is across the road from Pon-Tan-kan. Many people park their cars at Pon-Tan-kan, so be careful when crossing the road. 🖐️ A 2-3 minute walk will take you to a spot where you can overlook the falls, but it's narrower than you'd expect. lol If it's crowded, it might be best to move quickly and take photos. lol

The sign was small and I almost missed it. I parked at Pontankan and headed to the observation deck from the entrance on the other side of the road. The road is paved at first, but it disappears halfway through. It's a little steep. By coincidence, it turned out to be heart-shaped. It's a beautiful waterfall.

This is the Toroki Falls Observation Point. The entrance is across the prefectural road from Pontankan. It's just a 1-2 minute walk. If you want to see Toroki Falls directly, we recommend sea kayaking.
