What other travelers are saying about Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan was a beautiful and fun themed day. We spent the morning exploring the park and the afternoon in Super Nintendo World, which was incredibly immersive and well designed. There are so many interesting activities and rides, making the whole experience exciting from start to finish. We chose not to pay the very high price for express passes to skip the lines. Personally, I don’t feel it’s fair to pay so much extra to avoid queues, especially when you don’t truly know what the attractions are like before arriving, unless you research everything in advance, which takes away some of the magic. So we took our time, queued calmly for the rides we were most interested in, and still had a fantastic day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is widely considered worth a visit, particularly for theme park enthusiasts and fans of the Universal Studios brand. The park offers a range of attractions, including thrilling rides, shows, and themed areas dedicated to popular franchises such as Harry Potter, Minions, and Jurassic Park. Its unique attractions and the immersive experience of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter make it a standout destination for many visitors.

While it's possible to experience a significant portion of Universal Studios Japan in one day, covering every single attraction and show might be challenging, especially during peak seasons when the park is crowded. Prioritizing the attractions you're most interested in and arriving early can help maximize your time. For a more relaxed experience and to ensure you don't miss out on anything, two days might be ideal if your schedule allows.

Universal Studios Japan is located in Osaka, not Tokyo. It's one of the four Universal Studios theme parks worldwide and the first one in Asia. It's an important distinction for travelers planning their itinerary, as Tokyo and Osaka are in different regions of Japan.

Choosing between Disney and Universal in Japan depends on your personal preferences and interests. Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea offer a classic Disney experience with characters, parades, and attractions suitable for all ages. Universal Studios Japan in Osaka provides a more diverse range of attractions, including thrill rides and immersive experiences, particularly appealing to movie and pop culture fans. If time allows, visiting both can offer a well-rounded experience of Japan's top theme parks.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is located within Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. This themed area offers an immersive experience into the Harry Potter universe, featuring attractions like Hogwarts Castle, the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride, and the village of Hogsmeade, where visitors can shop for wizarding gear and enjoy Butterbeer. It's a must-visit for fans of the Harry Potter series, offering a magical and interactive experience.

Kudos to all the staff — their enthusiasm and big smiles really make you feel like you’re in a wonderland. It’s a fantastic place for kids and visitors of all ages. Harry Potter is definitely worth visiting. The moment you step in, it really feels like entering the Wizarding World. You can even spot people trying out their newly bought wands to cast spells. The Forbidden Journey ride is amazing — the 3D effects are so realistic you don’t even need 3D glasses. It’s thrilling and a little scary, but you can’t close your eyes because Harry Potter is right in front of you. By the end, the characters appear to cheer you up, which is a lovely touch. The Jurassic Park flying dinosaur ride is extreme — definitely for the brave! I had to close my eyes after 30 seconds 😂 The staff play the captain roles in Jaws, which is fun and very interactive. Mario Kart is exciting too, as you really feel like you’re inside the game. The underwater show at 4:30 pm was superb! We didn’t get to visit all the attractions, but it was truly worth it. The staff make you feel like a happy “kid,” and at every ride, they’re there cheering and adding to the fun.

Universal Studios Japan is an amazing theme park and a must-visit in Osaka. The atmosphere is fun and exciting from the moment you enter. Super Nintendo World is incredibly immersive, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is beautifully designed. The rides are thrilling and well-themed, though some popular attractions can have long waiting times. Getting an Express Pass is recommended if you want to save time. Overall, it’s a fantastic experience for both adults and kids. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Osaka!

Our second visit here — this time for the 25th anniversary. We booked our Fast Pass tickets through Klook and received the e‑tickets immediately after booking. Without a Fast Pass, the waiting times can range anywhere from 60 to 220 minutes depending on the attraction. If you arrive early enough, you can reserve same‑day entry to Super Nintendo World through the Universal Studios app. Thanks to that, we were able to visit the area both in the morning and again in the evening. The parade was great, but it can get very crowded.

USJ is one of the best amusement parks I have ever been to! The quality of the attractions, friendliness of the staff, and cleanliness of the park are unbeatable. I also don't think they price-gouge like the American theme parks. You can buy souvenirs and food for a fraction of the cost. We purchased the Express Pass, which included 7 rides. I highly recommend purchasing the additional Express Pass if you are visiting for only one day, allowing you to experience all the attractions. Otherwise, you will be stuck in line for most of the time, and you will miss out. Our favorite rides were Jaws, The Flying Dinosaur, & Mine-Cart Madness. The sets were stunning, especially the Hogwarts set. Nothing beats a hot butter beer while sitting outside at the lake behind The Three Broomsticks. We went at the start of the Christmas season, and it really felt magical. We hope to revisit someday.
