Yoyogi Park in Tokyo is a large and lively space, perfect for anyone looking to relax or have fun. Located next to Harajuku Station and Meiji Shrine, the park is one of Tokyo’s most popular spots for locals and visitors.

Spread over 134 acres, Yoyogi Park offers a bit of everything. You can find wide lawns where people often have picnics, play sports, or simply lie down and enjoy the day. There are also wooded areas with walking paths, ideal for a peaceful stroll.

On weekends, Yoyogi Park comes alive with activities. You might see groups practicing dance routines, musicians playing, or people showing off their skills with juggling or hula hoops. It’s a hub for creativity and expression.

The park is also famous for its events. Throughout the year, it hosts various festivals, food fairs, and markets, drawing large crowds. The cherry blossom season in spring is a particularly magical time to visit, with trees in full bloom attracting many to enjoy hanami or flower viewing.

Tailored Tokyo Stroll: Exclusive Guided Walking Experience

What other travelers are saying about Yoyogi Park

I visited Yoyogi Park last week during a short break between work commitments, and the contrast was striking—in the best possible way. Surrounded by one of the busiest urban areas in Tokyo, this vast green space feels like a completely different world the moment you step inside. The park is incredibly easy to access, just a 2–3 minute walk from Harajuku Station, yet it offers wide open lawns, tall trees, and a sense of calm that’s rare in the city. It’s the perfect place to reset your mind, even if you only have a short amount of time. Near the entrance, I picked up a nikuman (steamed meat bun) from a nearby shop. It was piping hot and surprisingly delicious—simple comfort food that felt even better enjoyed on the way into the park. People were enjoying the space in their own ways—walking, relaxing on the grass, practicing music or dance—creating a lively but unhurried atmosphere. Clean, spacious, and beautifully maintained, Yoyogi Park is a wonderful example of how nature and city life coexist in Tokyo. An ideal spot for a quick escape during a busy workday, and a must-visit if you want to experience Tokyo beyond its concrete and crowds.

A newfound favorite park! 🌿 It’s very clean and well-maintained, making it such a pleasant place to explore. I visited in winter (January) and loved that it wasn’t crowded. Just be sure to dress warmly so you can fully enjoy walking around. There are food stalls around, but since Shibuya is within walking distance, you’ll have plenty of dining options nearby. Definitely a must-visit spot in Tokyo!

It is a very cool central park type area. Reccomend a visit of you are in shibuya to just go in and relax. I reccomend a visit during spring if you are a foreigner visiting as it seems like it would be a fantastic and lively place. Visited In late January and people were out and about enjoying the park, lots of runners. Not a ton of benches to sit and enjoy but as long as you bring a blanket or something to sit on it should be a great experience.

Autumn at Yoyogi Park is calm and beautiful. The trees turn shades of yellow and red, making it a perfect place for a relaxing walk. The wide paths, cool air, and falling leaves create a peaceful atmosphere right in the middle of Tokyo. It’s great for photos, picnics, or just sitting and enjoying the season. 🍁

I walked here from Shibuya (via Harajuku) and it was the perfect way to end a busy day of exploring. I arrived here around sunset. Even on a crowded weekend, the atmosphere was lovely with so many locals out enjoying picnics. The yellow autumn leaves were stunning! Just a heads up: the fallen ginkgo seeds do smell a bit "funky," but the views are worth it. Overall it's a great place to relax and catch your breath in the middle of Tokyo.
