Asuka Historical Cycling Tour: Discover Ancient Japan and Kofun Tombs

Discover the roots of Japan on a guided cycling tour through Asuka. Ride electric bikes to ancient tombs, temples, and scenic spots while learning about the Asuka Period from a local guide.
No experience is necessary. The tour uses electric-assisted bicycles, making it easy even for beginners. The pace is slow and comfortable, with many breaks for sightseeing.
Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes suitable for biking. It’s also good to bring a small backpack, drinks, sunscreen, a hat, and rain gear if the weather is uncertain. In summer, insect repellent and long sleeves are recommended.
The tour will be canceled in case of rain for safety reasons. You’ll be notified by 5:00 PM the day before. However, if the weather worsens suddenly, the tour may also be canceled on the day itself.
Cancellation fees are based on the timing:
* 7 days before: 40%
* 3 days before: 60%
* 1 day before: 100%
* After payment, a 10% fee is always charged in case of cancellation.
Yes, but participants must be at least 145 cm tall to ride their own bike. Infants can join for free, but there is limited availability of child seats on electric bicycles. Please ask in advance if you need one.

I visited Asuka village by myself years back but decided this time to book a guided cycling tour. I am very glad that I did.
Asuka village is just the right size to be visited by motor-assisted bicycle. (The village is a bit too big to try to explore on foot, too inconvenient to go around by public transportation in a limited time, and too challenging to travel by ordinary bicycle as it is hilly)
I had a wonderful three hours touring in this beautiful and idyllic village with the guide, Sayoko san, and her colleague Kashu san.
They helped me to connect each spot with the respective historical event that I learned in history class. It is amazing that all those big events took place in this cozy basin which can be glanced easily from any of the hills in the village.
Asuka is the cradle of Japan’s civilization, a place that makes anybody feel at home.
I will come back, and participate some other programs.

It's nice and easy to understand if you go around Asuka Village with a guide.
Asuka Village was a local guide and he knew Asuka Village very well.
It was a very valuable experience to travel around Asuka Village and hear many stories from him.
In addition to being knowledgeable, they also have unique ideas about historical matters.
During the conversation, I was struck by the way he said things like, ``I think this is how I felt.''
I thought that they were able to express their own uniqueness, rather than simply guiding the history content that is found in textbooks.
I thought it was worth more than what I paid to be a guide this time.
I think this is due to the well-developed guide and the guide's personality.
