Located in Nada Ward, this hidden residential gem creates one of Kobe's most spectacular cherry blossom experiences each spring. The 400-meter stretch along Takao-dori features approximately 70 Somei Yoshino cherry trees that form a natural arch over a steep residential road, earning its popular nickname as the "Sakura Tunnel."
The street sits on a steep slope overlooking the city and ocean, positioned just south of Maya Cable Shita Station. This location has become a well-kept secret among Kobe locals, who return year after year to witness the transformation of an ordinary residential street into a pink canopy walkway.
The cherry trees reach their spectacular peak from late March to early April, when visitors can walk beneath the complete floral tunnel. The delicate pink petals create a beautiful contrast against the surrounding greenery, while the steep incline adds drama to photographs and provides elevated views over Kobe city and Osaka Bay below.
Visitors can take Kobe City Bus Route 18 from Sannomiya Station or Shin-Kobe Station, with the journey taking approximately 15 minutes to Maya Cable Shita bus stop. The Route 18 bus operates hourly on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays. Alternatively, the Kobe Minato Kanko Bus Route 51 'Saka Bus' runs every 20 minutes between JR Nada Station and Maya Cable Station.
No car parking is available near Maya Cable Station, so public transportation is strongly recommended. The tunnel experience is free to walk through, though the street can get quite crowded during peak bloom periods. The location serves as an ideal starting or ending point for those planning to ride the Maya Cable Car and Ropeway system to Mount Maya's summit observation points.
