Nishiki Onuma Park is an expansive recreational area located in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, at the tip of the Tarumae Hills. The park has been developed since 1976 to meet recreational demands and is widely used as a place for residents to relax. Spanning 236 hectares, the park centers around two scenic natural ponds, Nishiki Onuma and Nishiki Konuma, which sit at the foot of Mount Tarumae in a landscape shaped by volcanic activity and natural waterways.

The park's natural setting includes marshlands, natural forests, and small rivers that create habitat for diverse wildlife. Walking trails circle both ponds, with Nishiki Konuma offering a 1.6 km loop and Nishiki Onuma a 3.5 km course. These paths feature bridges and viewing platforms that provide access to the surrounding environment. Depending on the route, walks take between 20 to 50 minutes. The park also contains an arboretum, sprawling lawns, and an iris garden that blooms in June.

Visitor activities vary by season. Summer brings opportunities for canoeing and viewing iris blossoms, while winter from late January to late February offers smelt fishing on the frozen pond. The park includes an auto-camping facility with over 200 campsites, cottages, and bungalows, along with amenities such as park golf courses, athletic playgrounds, and an on-site hot spring facility called Yunomi no Yu. Camping fees are approximately ¥4,400 per night for auto park sites accommodating up to five people, while the onsen costs ¥600 per person.

General park admission is free, though certain facilities require separate fees. The park is accessible by taking the Donan bus from Tomakomai Station's north exit on the Tetsuhoku Kitaguchi line bound for Arten, alighting at either Nishiki Onuma-mae or Aruten-mae bus stops. By car, the park is approximately 40 minutes from Tomakomai Station. The park remains open year-round, making it suitable for both quick visits and extended camping stays.

It is spring time, so we can't see beautiful flowers and leaves. But the walk around the pond is very comfortable. I would love to come back again. 🍁🍀☘😍

This place was unexpectedly really nice and relaxing, it’s the perfect spot to visit before getting on the ferry. If you have 2 hours to kill, this is the place to do it softly.
