Rankoshi Town Exchange Promotion Center Yuki Chichibu

The Rankoshi Town Exchange Promotion Center Yuki Chichibu, also known as Yukichichibu Onsen, is a community-owned hot spring facility located in the Niseko region of Hokkaido. The center was refurbished in 2015, transforming it into a modern facility while maintaining its authentic character. The complex sits adjacent to Otama Numa, a natural turquoise sulfur onsen pond that shares the same geothermal source as the bathing facilities.

The onsen's natural spring water is distinguished by its high sulfur and iron content, making it one of the region's most mineral-rich bathing experiences. Local onsen sommelier Tsutomu Sato notes that the presence of pure sulfur water and mineral mud is a phenomenon found in only a handful of locations across the Japanese archipelago. The sulfur water is particularly effective for healing skin and acts as a natural moisturizer, while the thermal mud from the bottom of certain baths provides enhanced therapeutic benefits.

Visitors can experience eight different bathing pools throughout the facility. The women's section features four different outdoor baths including a distinctive mud bath, where guests can apply the mineral-rich mud as a natural facial treatment. The men's side offers two indoor pools and two outdoor pools. All baths utilize completely natural, unfiltered onsen water, and the facility provides shampoo, body soap, and hair dryers in the washing and changing areas. The complex includes a restaurant serving Japanese meals such as soba and curry, a shop with souvenirs and local produce, and a tatami mat rest area with views of the surrounding landscape.

The facility is located at 680 Aza-Yusato, Rankoshi Town, Isoya District, Hokkaido 048-1321. It sits on Highway 66 between Konbu Onsen and Goshiki Onsen, approximately 30 minutes by car from the Hirafu ski area. The center operates on a cash-only basis and is not tattoo-friendly, though tattoo cover stickers can be purchased for ¥300. A book of 10 tickets is available for ¥5,000, and visitors who purchase tickets on the 26th of each month (Bath Day) receive one free bath. Small valuables can be stored in lockers near reception for a refundable ¥100 coin deposit.

What other travelers are saying about Rankoshi Town Exchange Promotion Center Yuki Chichibu

Soaking in a hot spring on a heavy snow day is very comfortable. The hot spring is a sulfur spring, milky bluish and opaque, with a fairly strong smell. CASH ONLY

Fantastic small onsen with a range of baths at different temperatures. The onsen has a restaurant, gift.shop, tatami mat relaxation area as well as the bath house. The bath house is in the basement and can be reached by elevator. The bath house consists of the changing room, the indoor bath and washing area and the outdoor baths. There are 3 different outdoor baths, all at slightly different temperatures. The hottest is the bed bath and is a great finish to a soak. Well worth the ¥700 entrance fee. No tattoos.
One of my favorite onsens in Hokkaido. Very sulfuric waters that leave your skin feeling super smooth. Spacious outdoor baths and they limit the number of occupants now so can enjoy without too many other people. Highly recommended. Also grab one of the ice cream bars made with local milk.
Really cool local onsen. This was a recommendation from a Japanese ski guide. Great to see the local culture and such a restorative experience. Definitely a sulfur smell - but part of the experience! Photo is of the hot spring just outside the onsen.
Actually my favorite onsen around Niseko. It has 2 outside baths(rotenburo) with a nice and open sky view. The water is not too hot so it's a good place to take your time and relax! Really a sulfur onsen so pretty smelly which is good! There is a restaurant too.The facility has been renovated recently so everything is clean as well.
