RSK Rose Garden opened in 1974 and has established itself as one of Japan's premier rose gardens. Located in Okayama City, the garden spans nearly 30,000 square meters and showcases an impressive collection of 450 rose species represented by 12,000 rosebushes arranged in distinctive concentric circular beds. The garden's design creates an immersive floral experience that draws visitors into what many describe as a rose paradise.

The garden's horticultural management is carefully planned to optimize viewing experiences during two primary blooming seasons. Peak viewing occurs from mid-May to mid-June in spring and from mid-October to late November in fall, when cultivation practices ensure the roses reach their most vibrant and fragrant state. While many varieties bloom year-round, these designated periods offer the most spectacular displays. Beyond roses, the garden features seasonal plantings including Japanese apricot, cherry, wisteria, azalea, dogwood, hydrangea, and lotus around the perimeter beds, providing visual interest throughout the calendar.

Visitors can explore several themed sections that highlight different aspects of rose cultivation. The Royal Garden displays roses named for royalty and celebrities worldwide, while the Fragrance Garden emphasizes particularly aromatic varieties. The English Garden features David Austin's hybrid roses, which combine the form and fragrance of old varieties with modern roses' continuous blooming characteristics. The adjacent Hana-Natsukawa Plant and Flower Shop sells rose varieties grown in the garden along with gardening supplies, and offers classes in seasonal planting arrangements.

From JR Okayama Station, visitors can take the Nakashō Konbekkusu Line operated by Ryōbi Bus and alight at Shimonatsukawa stop, followed by a 5-minute walk to the garden. Admission costs ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for children during peak seasons (April-June, October-November), with reduced rates of ¥400 for adults and ¥200 for children from July to September and December to March. The garden features wheelchair-accessible entrances and flat pathways, with wheelchairs available for visitor use.

What other travelers are saying about RSK Rose Garden

I think it's not the season for flowers now, as the park staff were hard at work. However, the sakura was blooming and it was in all colors. It was so beautiful. Edit: I think Parc is permanently closed Other parts of the garden, where there appeared to be a stream, was not well maintained. Very beautiful and peaceful place. Do drop by Parc, the cafe next to the grounds. Amazing food.

Went last Saturday (May 20th) The flowers were all in full bloom. Some of the rose’s petals were falling off due to the rain the days before. They have a dog run that has two areas 1 for small to medium size dogs and one for large dogs. My dog enjoyed running around, It is a good size dog run. It also has a lot of shade and benches.

Beautiful garden full of well, roses, although it’s the first time I’ve been to a garden that has such a strong yet pleasant “rosy” fragrance anywhere you go. If you love nature or just flowers in general, I recommend everyone to visit~ :3 P.s: before i forget to mention, to anyone who is thinking of visiting, check out their website first to see which seasons and what flowers are currently in bloom 😎
