Japanese Calligraphy Experience in Miyajima Zen Temple with Kimono
1 hour
(7)
Experience Japanese culture at a 300-year-old Zen temple in Miyajima. This activity includes wearing a kimono, learning the basics of Japanese calligraphy, and creating your own piece using traditional techniques. You will also write on a rice scoop (shamoji), a symbol of good luck in Miyajima, which you can take home as a souvenir.
All materials and tools for the calligraphy lesson
We have the most beautiful experience. First our wonderful guide helped us choose and dress and their kimono. Followed by photographs in the shrine garden. Then it was time for our kanji calligraphy lesson. We had so much fun, we learnt the correct technique and were able to create our very own rice scoop to take home. We would wholeheartedly recommend this as an essential experience when visiting Japan.

Best part of our Japan experience!
This was a don't miss experience. The kimonos were beautiful and the staff that dressed you took great care and time to make it perfect. The tea ceremony was lovely and insightful. Calligraphy was just enough to make you want to stay longer and learn more. It was superb!
