Discover the rich history and flavors of Takayama on a unique brewery tour! This historic town, nestled in the mountainous region of Gifu Prefecture, was once home to 56 sake breweries over 300 years ago. Today, the city center still boasts 7 breweries within 200 meters, making it a rare concentration globally. You'll be taken to the oldest and largest brewery in Takayama, where you'll learn about the traditional sake-making process and sample locally produced sake. Led by a knowledgeable tour guide, this tour is a must-do for anyone interested in Japanese culture, history, and traditional drink-making. With the option for private tours and the chance to taste authentic Japanese sake, this tour is an unforgettable experience!
This was a really interesting tour with lots of background on how sake is made as well as lots of opportunity for tastings with explanations. Takumi gave us a thorough rundown or the whole process as well as explaining the differences in types of sake and how they affect tastes. Be warned though - you will need an extra bag to take home your supplies after the tasting!

Great tour and the best guide.
Our guide was so nice and very informative (thanks Sato). The tour went into the back rooms of the brewery. I learnt many new things about the complex process for making quality Sake. Next time I’d book directly with Happy Plus tours for less than half the cost. TripAdvisor is a complete rip off.
